New Free Training Will Help Election Departments Advance Their Cybersecurity Programs

CTCL has developed a new training to help participants use the Cybersecurity Framework developed by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). Designed to be usable by both election officials and IT professionals who serve election departments, the training focuses on Profiles, which are one of the three main components of NIST’s Framework. The training is sponsored by NIST.

In a landscape full of cybersecurity guidance, a Profile is distinctive. It’s a customized set of cybersecurity requirements to allow an organization to fulfill its mission while mitigating threats and vulnerabilities.

In other words, it’s the exact opposite of a one-size-fits-all approach to cybersecurity.

The training provides an overview of NIST’s Cybersecurity Framework, introduces Profiles and how to use them, and includes exercises so that participants can practice a few basic steps involved in developing a Profile for their election department.

A major theme of the training is alignment. How confident are you that your organization’s cybersecurity activities fit the work that it needs to do? With a Profile, you can make sure your cybersecurity posture is aligned with your mission. Plus, you can use a Profile to bring your cyber program in line with your election office’s resources and risk appetite. Finally, you can use a Profile as a risk management and communication tool, fostering coordination among all staff members and departments that support elections.

Participants can complete the training, which takes about 110 minutes, for free in a self-paced format. Follow the link below to get started.
